Mum Rant: Get out of my carpark!

In the last week I have seen 3 people on 3 different occasions park in the 'baby parks' who didn't have babies or children! Yes! 3! You know the parks I mean, they are the ones allocated for people with buggies and little ones in carseats.

These carparks are really awesome because they are usually wider (meaning less chance of you scratching the car next to you when you are getting baby in and out) and undercover or at least a bit closer to the supermarket making your already long day just a tiny bit less stressful.

Last week it was pouring with rain and I circled my supermarket parking lot hoping to find a park undercover. Sadly I was out of luck but then I saw a lady getting out of her car (parked in the pram park) with no baby. She strolled into the supermarket toasty warm and dry. I on the other hand had to park way down the lot and run in torrential rain with my rather heavy 14 month old on my hip.

Now, I know this doesn't sound like that big of a deal but for some reason it really irritates me. Am I the only one who would never dream of doing this? it just doesn't make sense to me that so many people would park in them who don't have a baby! I mean come on people! Can you not read the sign that clearly says for prams?! It's a picture of a friggin baby! Maybe you do have a baby at home and that's why you think it's okay to park in them? Nope! If your baby is not actually with you YOU CAN'T PARK THERE!! It just makes my blood boil that people can be so rude.

Dear lazy people who can't read signs,

If you think no one is watching or no one cares well maybe thats true but I see you! I see you stealing a carpark from a tired mama who deserves that slightly shorter journey to the shops. She deserves it because she works hard all day caring for her little one, she's been up since the crack of dawn and probably a lot of the night too. I challenge you to stop being so inconsiderate and actually think about others.

From a grumpy mama who wishes you were kinder.

Greening our parenting: Some tips that could help you on your journey (Part 1).

I’ve been working on this post for a really long time now and it’s just been getting longer and longer! Tonight I realised that’s because caring for the environment is actually something I’ve become pretty passionate about! I’ve got so much I want to share that I’ve decided to make it into two blog posts. Part 1 is all about sustainable consuming and Part 2 about creating our edible garden. I think what I love about is the fact that we are making small changes in our daily lives but these things can add up to having a big and lasting impact on our earth. I’ll be the first to admit that we are definitely no ‘zero waste’ household but we have made a few choices that I’m pretty proud of this year and here’s a little summary of ways we are trying to ‘Green our parenting’ and lessen our impact and footprint on our beautiful earth. 1. We use cloth nappies Not MORE washing I hear you groan!! Are you crazy?! Yes, it is more washing but the pay off is well worth it in my mi...

Amazing babies and why sleeping through the night is not everything.

Today after getting a pretty good sleep for the first time in months I looked down at my sweet boy all covered in mushy weetbix and half chewed pieces of watermelon and I thought Woah! How crazy is this? I made you! You are half me and half the person who I love the most in this world but hang on… now you are the person who I love the most in this world. Amazing babies It might sound silly but it was a bit of an eureka moment for me. I’ve been so tired lately. I mean dead tired, crazy, living zombie kinda tired that I think i’d forgotten how amazing this tiny human sitting in front of me truly is. He’s so smart, cuddly, curious and smiley. Full of boundless energy and games galore. He loves his truck book, pulling himself up on EVERYTHING, smiling at strangers in the supermarket and chewing on my hair. He can climb the 18 stairs in our house and does it at every chance he gets, he can remember where all his toys are even though he moves them around throughout the day. He likes ...

Reusable nappies: Saving the world one little bum at a time

When I found out I was having our little boy I was excited about the prospect of using reusable nappies instead of disposables. I've seen them being used in centres I've worked at and I was hopeful in doing my little bit for the environment. With all the media coverage at the moment around plastic and the damage it's doing (and this past month being plastic free July) I got motivated to try and go 100 percent reusable. It's a learning curve It's taken us a while to get there because like everything in motherhood- there's a learning curve. We started out by trying some of " The Nappy Ladies " recommendations when our baby was about 4 or 5 months old. I had three different types and every one of them seemed to leak on us. I got pretty disheartened and was about to give up when a friend of mine suggested I watch some Youtube tutorials. Great suggestion! Turns out I was putting two out of the three on wrong (the leg holes weren't done up tight en...
